Clarendon-Court House Mardi Gras

Tuesday evening,

 February 5th, 2008

8 PM

The Clarendon Mardi Gras Parade is a local, homegrown affair, with floats, music, beads and fun, held each year on Mardi Gras, in Arlington's original, historic downtown shopping district. Sponsored by the Clarendon Alliance, with guidance in all things Louisiana by the wonderful Louisiana Alumni Association,  it's an event typical of those in small towns all over Louisiana. In gratitude and compassion, we will be collecting for Katrina victims, as we march (or float).  Accessible by Metro -- either the Court House or Clarendon stops on the Orange Line, and by bus (38B).

See http://www.commuterpage.com/  for maps and transit information.

Driving, from 66, toward Washington, take the Spout Run exit (72), turn right on Lee Highway and right on Highland to free parking garage (after 5:30 p.m.) at corner of Highland and Wilson Blvd. From Washington, take Route 50 west to Washington Blvd., west. Turn right on Irving Street, at intersection of Wilson Blvd., Washington Blvd. and Irving Street (not quite as hard as it sounds) and right on No. 13th Street to right on Hartford Street to Highland Street garage entrance for free parking after 5:30 P.M.

Parade begins at 8:00, at Veitch Street (by the Court House Metro station) and ends just past the Clarendon Metro Station, at Irving Street. We have 2,000 lbs of beads (approximately 50,000 necklaces) from New Orleans, this year.  Practice your catching skills in the little time left.  Come early, stay late and have dinner at one of our more than 60 restaurants (see "shopping" for list).  And WEAR A COSTUME (it's the right thing).
